Jake and Kara first met at COM prom, a formal dance for new graduate students at BU's communications program. After instantly bonding at COM prom Kara, Jake, and a few other friends went out to explore their new home - Boston. (Thank goodness the local, Jake, was able to be their personal tour guide.) Kara forgot her high heels in Jake's car (shocking she was barefoot in public...she also chose to go barefoot on her wedding day) and ever since he returned them they became close friends.
Jake is no fool, and after being friends for a year, he realized what a smart, pretty, and kindhearted friend he had. One night Jake mustered up the courage to tell Kara he liked her and thought they should try dating. At first Kara was unsure, and she may or may not have laughed at the prospect. But after taking a trip home and realizing all the stories she told and pictures she showed included Jake, she could no longer deny what a smart, funny, and handsome guy he was. She decided to give him a shot. SPOILER ALERT: it was the right decision.
Jake took Kara to 75 Chestnut, a restaurant in Boston't toney Beacon Hill neighborhood where they had their first date. After the meal, they took their leftovers and Jake tried to direct Kara to the Boston Common at her objection because she felt they were going the wrong way. Once she acquiesced, Jake professed his love, got on one knee, and proposed while holding the take out. While Kara was overcome with joy she screamed, "Well at least put down the food!", the two then danced in the snow-covered park while listening to Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheerhan.
Jake and Kara initially wanted to have their wedding at the Pavilion at Cheesman Park, however, their date happened to be a black-out date. Instead, they chose to have an intimate first look at Cheesman Park, with the wedding ceremony later at Grant Humphreys Mansion.
If there ever was a couple more happy to just be around each other, it's these two. They were the best to hang out with on their wedding day!
Kara's dad actually built that Huppah! Isn't it gorgeous?
