There was nothing more that Elyssa wanted for her Senior year in high school than to spend time with friends; but one day, while walking through the halls with her friends, Matt approached them and said to Elyssa, "they called your name in the assembly." It was a short conversation, but when Matt walked away, Elyssa turned to her friends and asked them, "do you know him?". From that point forward, they saw each other more often and quickly became friends...
Not long after their friendship began, Matt informed Elyssa he had switched to the same piano class she was in...which is the same class their friendship grew. Matt began asking Elyssa if she'd like to get together sometime after school, but, Elyssa was hesitant--so she kept making excuses as to why she was not available to hang out with him...fortunately for her, he was just too persistent...
It was Elyssa's family who had to push Elyssa to give Matt a chance after he showed up on her doorstep on Christmas Eve with her favorite flowers and a CD he had made full of love songs. The first date, however, wasn't until the following Valentine's Day, and their relationship was finally "defined" on March 3rd, 2010.
Summer came around, and so did high school graduation, and shortly after, separate colleges in Arizona. They spent their college days with many Skype calls, letters in the mail, and frequent shuttle rides to and from each other's schools on the weekends. Then Elyssa decided to head down to Orlando to finish her school, and Matt, back to Colorado. Through the next couple years, they made it work through many phone calls, Skype dates, and vacations on the beach in Florida, until Elyssa moved back to start a teaching job in Colorado, where finally, they would be together forever.
In the summer of 2016, Elyssa's family planned a trip to a beach in Michigan. The family hadn't had photos done in 6 years, so Elyssa's mom announced the family would be taking photos and she wanted everyone to wear white shirts. Matt put on a white shirt that morning, which concerned Elyssa because at the time, Elyssa's mom had a rule that boyfriends and girlfriends couldn't be in family photos until they were part of the family. Little did she know her family was in on it. When Matt was pre-occupied, Elyssa pulled her mom aside and expressed her concern because she didn't want Matt to be hurt that he wasn't allowed in the photos. This confirmed Elyssa's oblivion as to what was about to happen. To Elyssa's surprise, her family allowed Matt to be in a few of the photos, and toward the end, Matt expressed that he wanted a few photos with just Elyssa. They started taking photos together then, when Matt felt it was the right moment, he got down on one knee and asked Elyssa to be his wife!
Matt and Elyssa were married on June 30th, 2017 surrounded by their closest friends and family. Elyssa made the most gorgeous bride, and Matt, the most handsome groom! It was a joy to photograph their wedding!
