A Pup-Date on Tyrza...

Today marks 3 months since Tyrza was diagnosed with Lymphoma. The vet told us when she was diagnosed that she would only have 2-3 months to live...yet here we are three months later, and Tyrza is doing surprisingly really well.

We took her to the beach for the very first time back in January, and as soon as we got back, we could tell she had stopped responding to the prednisone she was on. Prednisone is basically a small form of chemo that comes in the form of a pill that keeps the lymphoma at bay, but dogs always eventually stop responding to it sooner rather than later. We could tell she stopped responding to it because she woke up one day and her lymph nodes were noticeably larger than the day before. This was a tough realization for us because that day I think we both realized that her decline was coming, and as hard as it was, we have been trying to prepare ourselves.

We were told we would get to the point that she would eventually start having good days and bad days. A little over a week ago, she had her first bad day, and that was really hard for Frank and myself to watch. It was one of those things where we (especially I) questioned if it maybe was her time to go. However, that has been her only bad day so far, and since her bad day, she's been doing surprisingly, incredibly well.

Something we really can't explain happened in Tyrza. She suddenly wants to run around and play with balls and sticks, and chase Kai and eat food, and beg in the kitchen...And you'll never guess it, but her lymph nodes are smaller!

We can't explain it because we were told that lymphoma is a really progressive disease and as soon as she stopped responding to the prednisone, she would decline very rapidly.

I really don't want to get my hopes up because it isn't at all like she doesn't have lymphoma anymore, she does. But all these good days, and running around, and finding sticks and playing with them has really been exactly what my heart has needed at the moment. And for the time being, I'll take whatever I can get.

Tyrza, you have had such an amazing life, and you have given us so much joy...thank you for all the amazing moments...especially in these last days <3.
