Kauai | Our Favorite Small Island
In May of 2017, Frank won a pretty substantial award at his work. We were headed to Kauai! This place was incredible...so much so that it made a huge impression in our hearts. Both of us had never been before and kinda had the idea that it was a big over-commercialized, but we went to the smallest island, and to be honest, I wouldn't be mad if we came back frequently. We even considered buying a condo there!
In this blog post, I'll share a photo journal of our experience there. I hope you enjoy it, this island has a very special place in our hearts.
On our way up to Waimea Canyon.
Once we got to the top of Waimea Canyon, a cloud broke through and we got a rainbow for about 30 seconds...we had just come at the right time.
After the Waimea Canyon we went to Jo's shaved ice which is their original shaved ice place...and in Kauai, shaved Ice is a BIG thing!
One of the days we were there, we decided to do a Kayak and snorkeling tour on the Nepali Coast.
Halfway through the trip, we arrived at a different Airbnb, we were going to hike the Kalalau trail the next day and needed to get some rest!
The place we stayed was right on the beach, and so peaceful.
This is one of my favorite images Frank has ever taken of me.
We woke up before the sun the next morning to start our hike on the Kalalau trail. 22 miles round trip....I'll be honest, this was one of the hardest hikes I've done, and it was strenuous on my knees. I didn't have the best attitude the first day, but I'm thankful my husband was patient with me, and the second day, I decided to change my attitude. (thank you so much, Frank! I know I'm not the easiest to put up with!)
This hike is truly incredible and gorgeous.
This was one of the hardest hikes we had ever done....but we were determined to make it to secret beach!
After getting back from the Kalalau Trail (2 full days), we DOWNED some well deserved pizza, and slept so well the next night!
Frank wanted to surf really badly, so we spent the next day in a cute little surf town exploring and surfing. I also happened to get hit on by some surfer dudes while I was waiting for Frank on the beach.
On our last day, we went to a place called Queen's bath. Again, no real camera for obvious reasons, but I'm so glad we went here.
After Queen's Bath, we decided to take our one last trip to the beach before we started our trek home...
